WOF changes are ahead

Key points for motorcycle owners

  • If your motorcycle is pre‑2000, you can stop doing six‑monthly WoFs from 1 Nov 2026 — but you must still keep up with the new annual schedule.
  • If your motorcycle is 2000 or newer, your WoF frequency remains annual.
  • Always check your current WoF expiry date — the new frequency applies at your next scheduled inspection NZTA Vehicle Portal.
  • Keep your bike in good condition between inspections to avoid penalties and ensure safety.

Watch out for Penalties:

  • WoF overdue by >2 months: $350 (was $200)
  • Non‑compliant tyres/wheels: $350 infringement fee (was $150) and up to $1,000 court fine NZTA Vehicle Portal+1.
